MLK Beloved Community Dinner

Featuring Chef Bintou N’Daw at the International African American Museum

Sponsored by the International African American Museum, the MLK Beloved Community Dinner is the first event hosted by Transformation Table Lowcountry, a collaborative partnership between Transformation Table and YWCA Greater Charleston.

Created as a new event to YWCA Greater Charleston’s MLK Celebration, the dinner has been designed where understanding prevails, divisions crumble, and guests uniquely connect with each other, an embodiment of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of a Beloved Community: a space of social equity, belonging, and freedom from prejudice. The concept, initially conceived by philosopher Josiah Royce and championed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., continues to inspire people worldwide to form a world free from societal divisions and prejudices.

Dr. King once noted, "People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other."

“Cooking and eating is an important part of the universal ritual of love. By curating authentic African dishes, I’m aiming to honor and bring the ancestors to the table so they can nurture and inspire the bright future of the African diaspora.”

She previously worked as a private chef in New York and Senegal before taking a job at Chez Nous in Charleston, reminding her of her grandmother’s French heritage.
