Imagine if people in communities around the globe with different backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences could come together around the table to see, hear, and understand one another – to find those little points of connection that allows us to see each other’s humanity.
To foster cross-cultural understanding.
To combat racism.
To promote peace and equity.
THIS IS TRANSFORMATION TABLE.
“If you’re serious about change, go to each other’s homes and have dinner.”
Started by Tina L. Singleton, the seeds for Transformation Table were planted (literally) by a garden she planted behind the high walls and razor wire of her compound in Kabul, Afghanistan, while working as an inclusive development technical advisor.
Hosting 10-person lunches for Afghans and foreign nationals from across the globe morphed into a response to a challenge by Bernice King for the Charleston community to find ways to love and understand each other after the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel Church on June 17, 2015. She said we needed to get intimate if Charleston was serious about change. “Go to each other’s homes. Have dinner.”
Since November 2016, Transformation Table has hosted intimate in-home dinners and community events in the Lowcountry with over 400 community members, featuring the cuisine and food stories of local-global chefs from 20 countries. We look forward to scaling up our dinners as we move into a new normal after COVID-19.
Charleston Wine + Food Festival ‘23
We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership as we ramp up activities post-COVID-19 lockdown. Together with Charleston Wine + Food, we’re bringing a Community Table Dinner to the festival on Sunday, March 5. As with other Transformation Table dinners, you’ll sit among people you’ve never met for a family-style meal where five local chefs from across the globe celebrate their culture through food.
Mouthwatering dishes will be paired with libations from local sommeliers and mixologists. This curated experience combines the best of both worlds – great food and conversation.
It’s a chance to interact with folks from the community you may not otherwise meet. See you at the table!
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! SEE YOU IN MARCH!
