Southern Soul Re-Imagined

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2024

Hosts: Jamie & Craig Mitchum

Chef: Rashaunda Grant

Tamadas: Tonisia Brown-Cotton

This past weekend, Chef Rashaunda Grant and her team served up Southern Soul Re-Imagined, a personal meal that was both delicious as it was beautiful (check out the photos!!). We appreciated the family history behind every detail, and as guest Alandria shared, “Rashaunda explained the dishes, which were generously handled, and you could taste the effort that went into the dishes.” It was wonderful to welcome chef Rashaunda back to the Table.

Our dinner was held on Folly Beach, at the home of Jamie and Craig Mitchum. Beneath a Lowcountry sunset that we were lucky to see, the Mitchums were warm, welcoming, and generous in sharing their home. Over chef Rashuanda’s inventive dishes, there was no lack of laughter and storytelling here! The connection around the table was immediate and like being around long-lost family friends. Conversations ranged from the best plant identifying apps, family chicken pot pie recipes, art, and travel. There was even a reference to the film, Get Out! Which we’ll leave to the imagination. The group held space for some deep and intimate sharing.

Jamie later shared her thoughts about the evening: “In our world, people are spending less and less time together. I loved being around these people, and I realized how connected we are than not connected. I could do this every week.”
