After Dinner: The Adams & Scott Family Connection

As part of YWCA Greater Charleston’s MLK Celebration, Transformation Table Lowcountry hosted its first ever MLK Beloved Community Dinner on January 12, 2024. Held at and sponsored by the International African American Museum (IIAM), the dinner brought together 50 community members for an evening of fellowship and food. Bintou N’Daw and partner Tracey of Bintû Atelier prepared an amazing meal of Senegalese cuisine. Martie and David Adams attended the dinner, as did LaToya D. Scott.

LaToya D. Scott shares:

“I met Dr. and Mrs. Adams at the Transformation Dinner during MLK week. Dr. Adams sat across the table from me and we sparked a conversation. I introduced myself as "Zacora’s mom", and told Dr. Adams that Zacora was the 2024 Youth Keynote speaker at the MLK Breakfast Summit.

We hit it off, and from there, Dr. Adams introduced me to his wife Mrs. Martie. The rest was history: at the end of the evening, the three of us took a photo together, and exchanged phone numbers. I was even blessed to know that Zacora and I were the subject of his " takeaway" ‘tablecloth’ signature at the dinner!

Since the dinner, we have all kept in contact, and Zacora and I were recently invited to the Adams’ spring party at the Adams’ home. We were both warmly welcomed, and the Adams’ were able to meet Zacora. We met a lot of fun, great people, some who expressed an interest in supporting Zacora’s aspirations. We are excited about that. We plan to meet for dinner in the near future, and we are delighted.

“That’s the power of Transformation Table: the connections go far beyond the table.”
